How To Set Up ‘Google My Business’ for SEO /

Acquiring substantial visibility on Google has never been so important for sustained business growth, so we’re helping you learn the ins and outs of Google My Business to boost your SEO.

WHAT IS GOOGLE MY BUSINESS?

Google My Business is a platform that every business owner wanting to be visible on Google should be taking advantage of. Your page can show up in search results in three different ways:

  • Google Maps – Users can discover your business on both the desktop and mobile version of Google Maps.

  • Google Knowledge Panel – This is the box that appears at or near the top of the page when you search for a specific business, displaying key information and reviews.

  • Google Local Pack – These are the three businesses that appear with a map when you make a localised search, such as ‘livery yards near me’.

HOW WILL IT BENEFIT SEO?

The main benefit of Google My Business is that it increases your online visibility and allows customers to easily access important information about your company. The listings are distinct amongst search engine results.

Secondly, it is great for showing off your reviews, allowing customers to invest more trust in your business. We have a previous blog about the importance of testimonial and how to ask for them, so you can start demonstrating the quality of your product or service, which you can read here.

And lastly, Google My Business provides helpful insights into your business, for example it gives you a profile for your audience (age range, gender, and countries), the number of website clicks, and the searches people are using to find your business.

HOW TO SET UP YOUR PAGE

Setting up your business’ Google My Business page should be a quick, straightforward task, especially considering it is going to increase your business’ online visibility.

Firstly, head to the Google My Business’ Create Page, where you can fill out the name, category, and location if appropriate. It will then ask you some questions such as ‘do you also serve customers outside this location?’. Once you have provided the necessary information, and your listing has been verified, you will have access to your Dashboard where you can add elements such as your logo or opening hours. Ensure that you have filled in as much information as possible and that all the details are correct to make life easy for your customers.

DO YOU HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING?

Luckily, there are no costs involved with Google My Business. It is completely free to setup and use, and there is no ‘premium’ version so you have full access to all the benefits Google My Business has to offer!
