What a Digital Marketing Internship is Like During a Pandemic
As with so many other equestrian businesses, the start of Covid-19 left us with little work and no forward motion. Rather than focusing on the lack of activity within our industry or worry about the future of our business, we reassessed our values and decided to expand our team. Why? Because it’s easier to go the distance if you don’t go it alone! We could go on and on about how taking on 3 members of staff in the midst of a global pandemic and financial uncertainty may be considered rather daring, however we believe in hard work and carefully laid strategies, and so far, it has been a success. Read on to hear what Daisy thinks of her experience with us!
During June 2020 I became increasingly frustrated with my lack of purpose during the lockdown as my university exams had finished and all summer plans were out of the window for the foreseeable future. As I wanted to find a useful way to spend my time that could hopefully benefit my future career I began looking for businesses to get in touch with. I wanted to broaden my understanding of digital marketing whilst also offering skills and a knowledge of their niche that would make me a valuable member of their team. With my in-depth comprehension of, and love for, the equestrian industry it was the obvious place to start. Upon the recommendation of a friend, I emailed Christine at EQuerry Consulting enquiring as to whether she would be able to offer me some work experience or an internship, I explained that their elegant aesthetic over all of their platforms had indicated a deep understanding of the digital landscape that I wanted to hone myself! It was the first business I emailed, and I was pleasantly surprised when they offered me a 6-week placement.
Working remotely has proved to be just as fulfilling and practicable than any in-person work experience, with the help of Zoom, regular phone conversations with Christine, WattsApp and an online workspace, I slotted into EQuerry quickly and seamlessly. Having experienced the way Christine is always quick to respond to a query through WattsApp to her staff, I can easily assume this same access has been invaluable and reassuring to our clients over lockdown. EQuerry's clients have their own login to the client portal, 24/7 support through WattsApp and any other resources that relate to their project. It is amazing to me how we can act as part of the client's team so easily with regular communication and a real understanding of the equestrian world that cuts out a huge step in getting to know the client's businesses.
I have enjoyed my short time at EQuerry so much already, the fact that I get to help equestrian businesses become just as slick as businesses in industries that have embraced digital development every step of the way makes me so excited. I have also garnered a much more comprehensive knowledge of SEO practises, content creation, customer outreach and marketing strategy, which is more than I hoped to do! I have loved learning from Christine how we can enable businesses and professionals to elevate their success, as they so deserve to have their expertise and professionalism reflected online as well as in their everyday work.
I really believe that the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted how crucial it is for businesses and professionals to invest in their digital presence and this has never been more clear to me than after completing my internship and continuing on to work for EQuerry Consulting. The equestrian industry is densely populated with highly skilled people; but the correlation between widespread success and an amazing digital marketing strategy, plus a beautiful website, is only going to become stronger and stronger so I'm proud to be working for a company that helps those skilled people and businesses become the leaders in the industry!
