Why Squarespace?
Are you confused by which website platform to use? Have you just struggled through your 9th Wordpress melt-down? Or have you heard about Squarespace but not sure what it does? Let us explain why we chose to use this platform above all others.
Before Squarespace, we tried most of the website builders out there, including a substantial amount of time spent building sites on Wordpress. Over time we learnt was that most of the clients we work with come to us for one (or a combination) of these reasons:
They want a website that combines both functionality and design without one being compromised by the other
They have a website already but are constantly paying their developer for updates because the site is too confusing for them to manage themselves
They want to grow their business but are worried about being locked in to contracts and spending time on updates for peak functionality
They want a website but don’t want to wait months for it to launch
All of these reasons were in one way or another hindered by our past website design platform, and it wasn’t before we moved to Squarespace we could provide clients with sites that were 1) easy to use, maintain and update, 2) built on an all-in-one solution requiring no updates or plug-ins, 3) visually pleasing and live within the matter of weeks.
3 COMMON SQUARESPACE MYTHS
Although we are completely comfortable with our choice of website host, we occasionally encounter clients who are worried about Squarespace for reasons that are wholly incorrect:
Squarespace does nothing for your SEO.
Now it is true that Squarespace does not have a Wordpress equivalent of Yoast’s SEO plugin, and the reason for this is because the SEO functionality is built in to the site. Why? Because Squarespace is engineered to work properly without a sea of plugins. Yoast itself does not yield your Google rankings, but act as a digital checklist.
You should take the lack of plugins as a positive, saving you time, money and potential security loop-holes. Ultimately, your SEO is affected by high quality, relevant links, providing valuable, niche content, and your site set-up.Squarespace is bad for blogging.
Every Squarespace website comes with a blog and there are few limitations to what you can do with it. Make it your news page, utilise it for your podcasts, or display your testimonials. If you are new to blogging, blogging on Squarespace requires no separate hosting, no need for buying your domain elsewhere, and no need to link from a separate platform. Squarespace is like Apple in that it is a closed source website platform where all you need is included in one place.Your website will look like everyone else’s as there is no customisation.
If you are new to building websites your site may very well look much like the template you started with. However, this is not a true representation of the platform’s potential. You can customise your Squarespace website to your heart’s content, both with and without the use of CSS, HTML or JavaScript.
Don’t believe us? Squarespace is used by companies such as Wired, HBO, and Cisco. Head this way for 35 examples of Squarespace website that look nothing alike.
